the yoga room
"The practice of asanas purges the body of its impurities, bringing strength, firmness, calm and clarity of mind."
- BKS Iyengar
The Yoga Room is a small yoga studio in Mangawhai Heads.
Classes operate on a 10 week term commitment to allow
personal development and inner shifts. There are no drop-in classes.
You are more than welcome to try out a couple of classes before committing.
The style of yoga that I teach is what I experience first hand in my own practice.
There is a deep flavour of alignment from my Iyengar and Hatha roots,
and an emphasis on sensitivity and breath.
I'm fascinated by how our practice can move beyond the mat. Creating space and stability, we as human beings are able to heal and enrich our lives through our practice. I also incorporate ayurvedic understandings of energy into the practice.
Yoga is the ultimate 'exercise', bringing true strength,
inner peace and self-awareness.
Your mat allows you to step outside your life, to become mindful, and find growth both physically, mentally and spiritually.
Yoga retreats are the ultimate - leaving you feeling buoyant and light.
Open to all levels, our yoga retreats are a rejuvenative for your mind, body and soul.

I've been attending yoga classes with Honor for over five years now. What has inspired me about Honor over the years is her devotion to the well-being of her students. We are all different ages, sexes and levels of fitness. With Honor I never felt intimidated by not being able to accomplish a new posture. She always found a way to support my ability and attain the benefits of the posture with appropriate props and her guidance and encouragement, until I gained the necessary strength and flexibility to complete it more fully. Through regular attendance twice a week I have achieved a level of strength, flexibility and confidence in myself that I would not have thought possible when I started.
I am so grateful to Honor. She is an excellent teacher and with small classes is able to observe and correct us. She is acutely aware of the physical risks and injuries that can occur when yoga postures are not properly demonstrated with clear, concise instructions. Honor's belief in the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of yoga has created a sense of empowerment in me that I am in charge of my own wellbeing. I am privileged to have her as my teacher.
